I guess the grass is always greener at the end of the day. If I had a time machine, I think I would have told my younger self to go Mechatronics instead of pure Mechanical, but then again, that closes a lot of doors, and graduating into the aftermath of the Great Recession, I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to get a job with a more specialized degree like that. I spent 3 years trying to get in with them, but they just weren't ever hiring. I moved to a city specifically because there was a large alternative energy designer there who utilized composites only to have them announce they were downsizing their engineering staff a month after I got there. It turns out that outside of Aerospace/Defense (which I wasn't interested in for ethical reasons), there's just not that many jobs in those fields though, and most of the ones I could find were located in areas I really didn't want to move to. I was convinced I was going to get out and get into some cool composite design job. The guy who ran it was apparently a protege of one of the OGs of the field and really knew his stuff. My university had a surprisingly good Solid Mechanics & Composite Materials program that I absolutely loved. None of his past comments have anything to do with 3D printing besides recommending printers, well except for a couple basic looking models he printed for fun. The whole post is a joke and the kid is delusional. There’s no shipping supplies or mess, and why would that massive printer be on the ground under the desk if it was part of his printing operation which I’d imagine him needing to run 24/7. How fast can you 3D print stuff especially if you only have partial time to use the area? Plastic injection molding would also kill his business if he had one.
He claims to be selling vr stands that he 3D prints which if you look on eBay go for like $25.
